Diabetes and School
If you have diabetes, you are just like all the other children in your class. From the moment you get to reach group 4/5 most children know fully well how to handle their diabetes. They know when and what to eat to keep their glucose level okay and how to use insulin. They also know when they need to call home for support. What’s very important is that your teacher understands all of this and gives you the space you need. Younger kids, till group 3 or 4, sometimes need just a little extra attention. This calls for good arrangements, to make sure the child has a good primary school time.
Over the past few years much work has been done to make the care for children with diabetes at school better for all involved.
