Other forms of diabetes

Besides type 1 and 2 diabetes there are also some other forms of the disease. Three to five percent of the people with diabetes have a hereditary form. This is caused by a single genetic defect and is therefore called monogenetic diabetes. More than fifteen types of monogenetic diabetes are known. A well-known group is MODY.

It can take years before the correct diagnose is given. Diabeter has developed a new test that enables us to do this much quicker. This means that patients also get the proper treatment quicker. For this reason Diabeter treats quite a number of patients with monogenetic types of diabetes. It demands a different, sometimes easier, kind of treatment (with pills) and counselling.
